Professional Biography: Deo Nshimirimana

Deo Nshimirimana is a dedicated development professional and seasoned educator from Burundi, with over 15 years of experience in project management, education, youth empowerment, and community development. He is deeply committed to using his expertise to drive sustainable development, foster youth leadership, and strengthen grassroots communities.

Currently serving as a United Nations Online Volunteer, Deo supports global and regional initiatives aimed at improving education, civic engagement, public health, and social inclusion. His commitment to volunteerism has led him to contribute meaningfully to organizations such as UNDP, WHO, UNFPA, UNCDF, UNRISD AND UNV , ASCOA Governments like Thailand and Zambia among others. His impact spans assignments in youth mapping, content translation, fundraising campaigns, digital campaigns support, and project research across Africa and beyond.

Deo holds a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Burundi and is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Administration and Business Management at Gitega Polytechnic University, with a focus on project management and entrepreneurship. He has also earned several certifications in business management, project management, ICT, sustainable development, and leadership from institutions such as Harvard University, YALI, Alison, UNV, Université Senghor, Coursera and Edex.

As the CEO of Abumvakare Community Financial Group, a microfinance organization registered under the Central Bank of Burundi, he provides financial and entrepreneurial education to underserved populations. Deo is also a former High School Principal for 12 years , English Teacher, and Project Manager for 5 years for initiatives funded by organizations such as the King Baudouin Foundation and Collibri Foundation based in Belgium. Through these roles, he has trained hundreds of young people in financial literacy, agribusiness, and cooperative development.

In addition to his fieldwork, Deo is a published writer and thought leader on issues such as youth leadership, social justice, digital transformation, peacebuilding, and environmental sustainability. His articles appear regularly on the IFWY platform, where he promotes youth-driven solutions and advocates for inclusive policy change across Africa.

Deo is fluent in Kirundi, Kinyarwanda ,French, and English, and is recognized for his excellent communication skills, team leadership, problem-solving ability, and cultural adaptability. His technical skills include proficiency in Microsoft Office, web development (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript), database management, and content creation.

Driven by a passion for equity and innovation, Deo Nshimirimana continues to contribute to global dialogues and local actions that aim to transform societies for the better. He believes that empowering young people and promoting inclusive education are vital pillars for achieving long-term peace and prosperity in Africa.

Conferences and International Engagements

Deo has participated in several high-level international conferences and workshops that reflect his global perspective and commitment to development:

- In February 2016, he attended a regional workshop in Gaborone, Botswana, organized by the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS), focusing on civic education on elections and governance.

- In September 2022, he took part in the International Youth Conference held in Cambridge, MA, USA, organized by Generation Next Network and International Youth Conference partners.

- In May 2022, he completed courses with the International Policy Center for Inclusive Growth and the South-South Cooperation in partenership with UNDP Brasil ,receiving certificates on social protection.

- On August 25-26, 2025, Deo participated in the "International Forum We the Youth" (IFWY), organized by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) in collaboration with MBC.
